Project Libertatum (name pending) is an ongoing and developing original character and universe project. Long before modern times, people were fluent in the art of magic. The earliest records show that people could change their element of magic by drawing upon the powers of nature, but as communities began to settle, they focused on one element in particular. Unfortunately, a cataclysmic event forced the world to fight against invading beasts. Putting their abilities into overdrive and shackling the limits of magic, the people were successful in driving the beasts away, but it came at a price; magic was left severely weakened and using it put strain on the body. Eventually, native magic almost entirely faded away, and technology advanced in its place. With prophecies of a second cataclysm arriving, however, it remains to be seen how a world without magic can defend itself...
Danny is the main character of Project Libertatum, and a young adventurer with an endless sense of curiosity. Danny usually has a bright disposition, and tends to be very expressive and vocal about their thoughts to a fault. They are a sensitive person who reacts negatively to strife and conflict, and thus tries to inspire hope and positivity in everyone they meet. Danny's ultimate dream is to be able to protect the peace of their home; he aims to accomplish this by joining the Golden Empire Knight's Academy and train under the command of Queen Kaine and the great knight Anton.
Sammy is the younger sister of Danny by a couple years. Unlike her older sibling, Sammy is not very optimistic or adventurous; instead, she is lackadaisical and quippy, responding to others with snark and disinterest. Most people who meet her may initially view her as insufferable, but her collected behavior means she is actually the voice of reason within her friend group. Though their personalities do not always mesh well, Sammy still cares for Danny immensely. She sticks by their side on adventures only to make sure their naivety doesn't get the best of them.
Anton is a high-ranking general within the Golden Empire Knight's Academy. He has proudly served Queen Kaine for many years, and is looking to pass on his knowledge to the younger generation before retiring. When Danny joins the Knight's Academy, Anton serves as their personal mentor as well as a pseudo-father figure for both Danny and Sammy. Anton is stoic and honorable; a shining example of modern chivalry in every way. Ironically, despite his position as general, he has difficulty operating in large groups and keeping up with youthful humor.
Chelsea is the best friend of Danny. A foreigner to the Golden Empire, she recently moved after running away from her family in a faraway land. Danny offered her temporary residence in their house, where she works under their mother's family jewelry store with the intention of moving out once she can afford a house. Her outsider perspective makes her rather critical of the Golden Empire's unfamiliar customs. Chelsea is very inquisitive and philosophical, spending much of her free time reading and often flaunting her vast amounts of knowledge on a wide variety of subjects.
Kaine is the queen of the Golden Empire. She is the owner of a Soul Core, a precious gem from long ago that denotes royal status and provides the wielder with powerful elemental magic to protect their people. Kaine's Soul Core is known as the Beam Gem, which grants her luxokinetic powers. She is well-liked within the Empire for her pacifist nature and active role in the government, though she can develop a surprising mean streak when her kingdom is put in grave peril or when the cataclysmic event that decimated her kingdom long ago is brought up in conversation.
Seam is one of a few living mages in the world. His ancestors continued practicing magic even as it wrought pain on them, and he is the only member left of a family that has managed to withstand the pain. Seam has isolated himself to study magic, and is particularly proficient in spaciokinesis thanks to the Cosmic element of his ancestors. Seam is quiet and can be cruelly blunt at times thanks to social ineptitude, though his intentions are pure and he seeks to protect the Golden Empire in the face of the prophesized second cataclysm.
Miriam is the princess of a nomadic tribe known as the FROST. She carries a confident and powerful air about her, and can even come across as wicked or manipulative. When she hears of strange plans for her tribe to invade the Golden Empire under her father's command, she secretly betrays him in an effort to protect her people from waging war by providing intel to the Golden Empire. Danny's first big mission as a new recruit of the Knight's Academy is to help Miriam negotiate a peace treaty between the two entities and uncover the source of her father's unusual behavior.
Scarfy, as he is nicknamed by many, is a young adult who lives on the island of Mamona Wai. Frustrated with his life, he seeks escapism by pretending to be his idol. His costume is derived from a certain hero in the Golden Empire, though a lack of information about his accomplishments available on the island has made his cosplay and performance subpar. Underneath his arrogant and courageous persona, Scarfy is incredibly timid and somewhat of a scatterbrain. More than anything, he desires to be treated with respect and dignity. Will he achieve that? Who knows...
