'A BEAUTIFUL GOODBYE'
For me, art is a hobby and a way of life. My artwork reflects everyday life and popular
culture. I draw inspiration from Pop Art from the 1950’s to present time. Pop Art is a
celebration of identifiable imagery, drawn from mass media and popular culture. From an
early age, I have always been fascinated by all works of art. As I have grown older, my
love for Pop Art and its simplicity has grown.
When creating my work, I want to stand out not only from others, but from the simplicity
of Pop Art as well. I like to make the connection that when Pop Art first started, the
world was in a simpler place but now the world has grown to be very complex. Being that
I want my work to be more complex than traditional Pop Art, I still want to maintain
some sort of simplicity. To do this, I came up with subtle ways to help exaggerate certain
aspects of my work. In developing these images, I have used a similar technique
throughout. By using simplicity to capture the main subject, I then use exaggeration and
color to add complexity and complement.
My current series, ‘A Beautiful Goodbye’ is a combined exploration of my love for Pop
Art and my wish to become a standout independent artist. These works reflect everyday
life and the transition from simplicity to complexity.
