JELLY NICOTINE
the making of the music video

THE SCRIPT
Pictured above is the screenplay for the music video. It was written by myself and Josh Parrish. As you can see in this picture, there were originally intended to be three bully characters, Chad, Brad, and Thad. The two other characters were supposed to be played by two of the band members, but due to scheduling conflicts, they had to drop out of filming, and I changed the script to only include Thad.
"Jelly Nicotine" was a song that I gravitated to because I related to it. When I had conversations with Manny [the songwriter] I found that we had many shared experiences. The character of Puppet Ryan was inspired by the blunt, critical, and annoying version of me I started seeing in myself during my own depression.
After the script was finished, I drew up the storyboard for the music video. It was up to my directors of photograpy to decipher my heiroglyphs to come up with the shotlist, but I think they nailed it.

POST-PRODUCTION
Definitely one of the most fun stages of editing the music video was the color grading process. Each segment of the video has its own unique style, and bringing that across with color was very rewarding. You can see the befores and afters below.
