In the Maze

By: David Galler

For what it serves, the center has many times
to sing beyond the other openings'.
where Ariadne & Minotaur each held
thus has he stood, apart from source or center,
one end of the capering thread while he looked on,
from in a wall, it seemed. Many times
they cease. For what it serves, he uses the thread
upon the dust, until there is no song.
hearing the heavy steps. If but he moves,
many times before he makes the choice.
to guide after the sun has set, and all
he hears the bones collapse, rattle behind
Moving to meet who holds the other end,
looped over itself & over the arms of the dead
his grasp & wakes each morning in a cool
There, just beyond one pair of walls, a voice
been seen & reconnoitedered & the thread
born of the firmness of decisions seems
freshet of bones, the whole tale to recall,
Now he is lost, as he has been in his dreams
