Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll was born on February 2, 1977, in Barranquilla, Colombia. With a Lebanese father and Colombian mother, Shakira honors both her Latino and Arabic heritage in her music.

Shakira started her career at the age of 13 and made her first recording under Sony Music Colombia. She became mostly known for her strong vocals and incredible hip-skaing belly dance moves. This singer and songwriter has sold over 80 million records worldwide and wrote her first son at the age of 8.
Colombian queen Skaira has been an inspiration for the Latino industry, winning multiple grammy and music awards. She has been part of many important events such as The World Cup and Super Bowl. She is the highest-selling Colombian artist of all time.
HER SUCCESSFUL CAREER
Her first two albums, Magia (1991) and Peligro (1993), were sucessful. However, it does not compare to her third album El Oasis. Shakira resumed her music career in impressive fashion with Piesz descalzos (1995)

Somehow I am fusion of all of those passions and my music is a fusion of all elements that I can make coexist in the same place in one song."

PERSONAL LIFE Shakira is in a relationship with Spanish soccer player Gerald Pique. They both met when she filmed the music video for her 2010 FIFA Wordl Cup in South Africa. The couple welcomed their first child together in January 22, 2013 called Milan. The name means dear, loving, and gracious. They had their second child in January 29, 2015, called Sasha.
Shakira previously dated Antonio de la Rua. He suited Shakira for $250 million, charging that he helped her to create her hit songs and the brand itself.
Shakira is not married with Pique. "To tell you the trugh marriage scares the shit out of me. I want him to see me as the lover, the girlfriend. I want to keep him on toes. I want him to think that anything's possible depending on behavior," she said.
Her First English Album In 2001, Shakira released her first English-language album, Laundry Service, which quickly brought her the success in the United States she had been waiting for.
As would happen with indie-rock bands after signing on with a major label, Shakira’s transition to English-language recording met with resistance from the audience that made her famous in Latin America.
The Laundry Service album soared even higher on the Billboard 200. Before its run ended, Shakira’s first English-heavy album stayed on the charts for 61 weeks.

When Shakira was four, her father took her to a local Middle Eastern restaurant, where Shakira first heard the doumbek, a traditional drum used in Arabic music and which typically accompanied belly dancing. She started dancing on the table, and the experience made her realize that she wanted to be a performer.
