Pete Docter is an animator, director, producer, screenwriter, and the Chief Creative Officer at Pixar. He was born on October 9, 1968 in Bloomington, Minnesota and grew up creating flipbooks and animated shorts. After transferring from the University of Minnesota to California Institute of the Arts, Docter won a Student Academy Award before graduating in 1990. At the age of 21 he began working at Pixar, the day after his college graduation, under the recommendation of Joe Ranft, co-director of Cars. He was one of the most influential screenwriters behind Toy Story, and went on to direct Monsters Inc. (2001), Up (2009), Inside Out (2015), and now Soul (2020).
